Derma Rolling London

Turn back the clock with this cutting-edge anti ageing treatment sensation available at my London clinic, variously referred to as Derma Rolling, Skin Needling, Collagen Induction Therapy or Dry Needling. This treatment is quickly becoming the most popular minimally invasive alternative to plastic surgery, Botox and other injectable therapies.

Derma Rolling is a non-invasive technique used to tighten loose skin and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. It is also great for improving the appearance of acne scars, rosacea and stretch marks. It has also been used for hair loss and works well in conjunction with a hair stimulant.

A small hand held Derma Roller which has hundreds of tiny needles is rolled over the skin to produce tiny pin pricks. The actual length of the needles is an important factor in gaining the best results.

Derma Rolling Home Treatment

People can purchase a derma roller for home us and although these may give a nice glow to the skin the needles are not usually long enough to traumatise the skin into healing and thus growing more collagen.

However, any needles from 1mm upwards should not be used for a home treatment but needs to be done professionally with the use of a topical anaesthetic.

Derma Rolling FAQ's

Does Derma Rolling Hurt?
Depending on the size of the needles, there can be a slight discomfort which is why a topical anaesthetic is used.
Is Derma Rolling Safe?
Unlike lasers which burn through the skins layers destroying the topmost layer of the skin and requiring a certain amount of aftercare and downtime, needling does not destroy the surface layer. The tiny pinpricks may bleed with the initial injuries but these heal quickly leaving the skin intact resulting in minimal aftercare and little downtime.
How many treatments does it take to see results?
It depends on the condition of the skin, but usually between 3 to 5 treatments but results will begin to show almost immediately. Subsequent treatments build on each other as the body’s healing response is stimulated. But that’s not where it ends!
How does Derma Rolling work?

Once the skin is treated, fibroblasts migrate to the site and produce an extra cellular matrix which cross-links and organizes itself. Over time, new collagen will fill in any depressed scars and deep lines that are present; break down and reorganize any scar tissue and realign and stimulate new pigmentation.

After a few months this collagen will start to shorten and thus leads to the slow tightening of the skin.

After a year, this healing process will eventually lead to the formation of a thick layer of collagen, healthy elastin and improved blood flow at the initial injury site.

Each needle prick’s healing process will blend together to lay down an almost continuous sheet of collagen below the epidermis. The visible results of these can be the hard or raised scars will soften and flatten, indented scars like acne pits will fill in and appear less depressed, lines and wrinkles will soften, revealing tighter and smoother skin, hypo-pigmented areas will regain colouring, while hyper pigmented (darkened) skin will lighten to the colour of normal skin.
